MOIN KIKHIA

Moin Kikhia has advised at the highest levels of decision making in Libya. He was vital in guiding the political transition following the outbreak of civil war in 2011, working closely with the Libyan stabilisation team and the National Transitional Council during its inception.

About Moin Kikhia

Moin Kikhia's staunch belief in cooperation and dialogue has allowed him to maintain strong diplomatic relations with the conflicting parties in Libya across all regions of the country. Across the turbulent political landscape, he has promoted discussion between all sides establishing a high level of respect both in and out of Libya.

In 2019 he founded the Libyan Democratic Institute (LDI), an organisation seeking to support the path towards democracy for Libya through public forum and policymaking. LDI is ambitious in developing the ideas that will guide Libya towards a stable, inclusive and democratic society with lasting institutions. The Institute reflects Moin Kikhia’s belief that it is time for the Libyan people to make their decision on how the nation should be governed.

The lack of truly democratic institutions and governance in this country mean that the mechanisms are not in place for free, fair and inclusive elections. There will need to be a two step process: first, a non-partisan, non-political interim government administration, accepted and recognised internationally and domestically, whose task it is to prepare the country for those elections; second, a properly conducted election process, recognised, accepted and supported both by the international community and by the citizens of our country. Moin Kikhia is leading the voices calling for the early, urgent adoption of this interim Government.
